Hot Topic: Meisterplan | Jira integration is moving forward

Hi everyone, here’s a quick update from the Meisterplan team! We are currently implementing the first iteration of the link between Jira and Meisterplan. With this iteration, users will be able to link Meisterplan projects to Jira epics. The other types of Jira items that were mentioned in the original post (Jira project, Jira release,…) are not part of this first iteration. Here’s an updated peek at how this will look for users who import a Jira epic as a new Meisterplan project: First, users select which epics they want to import. Then they assign resources to those projects in Meisterplan, and get a clear view of how many Jira stories can get finished given the allocation entered in Meisterplan. Stay tuned for further updates (don’t forget to follow this thread by clicking “Follow” in the top right corner)!
  4. Interesting question, and one that probably doesn't have one 'right' answer. You have a number of factors to take into account, for example: Do the projects for the different business areas use a shared pool of resources? If resources are strictly within different business areas, what's the benefit of a combined instance? How different are the requirements for the different groups of users? If the business areas have different key custom fields, project stage gates, scoring attributes etc., perhaps it's better to maintain separate instances. How confidential is your data? Meisterplan allows portfolio owners to see other work that their resources are using (though they can't affect it) What are your reporting requirements? If it's necessary to provide a view across the whole of the company's activity, then it makes sense to have a combined site with all projects, resources, dependencies? Do you have a BI tool that could aggregate the data from different Meisterplan instances, to give an overall view? As I said at the start, not an answer, but some thoughts that make help you towards the right answer for you. Have other customers followed a similar route?
  5. Hi, We started to use Meisterplan at the end of 2017 starting with only one business group - we currently have 125 resources within this now. Half way through this year we began to gain interest from other teams in different business area's so we have opened up two seperate instances for their business area's. We are now looking to begin to ask all teams from all business area's to use the tool and I would be really interested to hear how other businesses have done this? We believe that we should move all back onto one instance for the ease of reporting, however this would could involve up to 1000 resources within it and more users updating. Please can people share their best practices on this as would be interesting to hear pros and cons of either situation? Many thanks Daisy
  6. Thanks for fixing it! Have a great week! M

    Filtering by Resource Skills

@Manuel Schneider many thanks for your response, to my query and look forward to having the option to select specifically based on skills only, as skills can be across multiple roles and in a fast moving and large resource pool this would be significantly beneficial, and with the identification of future resource needs (interim and long-term). The option re roles is very useful and the ability to staff and replace once a resource is identified from the role group is a good function. kind regards

    Meisterplan Round Table

Great to see that you are going to participate! As Daisy suggested, let's make the project score our first topic. I think it would be interesting to broaden the discussion to project prioritzition methods and possibilities in general. Looking forward to the first MP Round Table
  9. Thank you @Daisy - here's to our first Round Table!
  10. Hi Mihai, Thank you for letting us know. We are currently working on the issue and I will keep you updated Regards Manuel
  11. Hi Guys, The Capacity report works only on a week slice period. Even though I try to change it to Month, it doesn't save it. Any ideas how to fix it ? Also, for Capacity try to include the Count of FTE. That will give a lot of sense in knowing how many headcounts we have in the organization. We have a high number of externals that have <100% Capacity. Maybe is something that I am missing in the reporting setup and I need some help setting it up M
  12. Hi Manuel, many thanks for your response. We are aware of the views that Meisterplan currently provides but wish to view projects in a horizontal view, where currently named resources or types are viewed. The view currently is varying shades of greeen and red, for over allocation, whcih is useful however this requires the user to hover over to establish what the green is representing and on a case by case basis not as a group so to view a holistic view in the lower screen. When viewing the top part also you are unable to view holistically, especially when a team of resources are assigned. A gantt chart tyle view is a very useful to visulise what work is scheduled and within a specific set day or period and enable an easy way to view start and end dates of a project in one simple view. In addition, who is working on each task, length, interdependencies on other projects, in particular as a result of resource availability and overlaps. Lastly this view can aid in PPM discussions and enable improved collaborative working. During an initial customer presentation the gantt view was shown as being on the roadmap for Meisterplan is this no longer the case - do you know? kind regards Vicky
  13. Thank you for setting this up Manuel - I know there are other's from in my business who are very interested to hear from other businesses too. One of the topics I would like to hear more from others is on they define there project scoring within the system.

    Extended Rights Management

@Stefan Schneider Hi Stefan. Just tested the rights management and found a small issue. I can still change Milestones even though all Project rights are disabled. I find it a bit confusing that you can still update a Project Milestone, when you don't have access to create edit, or update the project itself. M

    Extended Rights Management

Thanks for your feedback. We already got some feedback on doing configuration faster for many users. We don't have that on our short term roadmap. As soon as we will work on the concept, we also will consider your point.

    Extended Rights Management

Hello, Is there a plan to have a table. If I need to modify many users then it would be great if the administrator could work in a table instead of in each single tab. Thanks
  19. Hello, we also would be interested in allocations in percent as this will simplify the entry of data especially for department managers. They use it to lock time for daily business. Best regards

    Filtering by Resource Skills

Dear @Vicky.Thompson, You are right, when allocating people on a project, you can currently only use one skill at a time to filter the list of resources. We will consider this as a suggestion for improvement, thanks for the feedback! In the resource view (lower part of the main screen "Portfolio Designer") you can filter for multiple skills at a time. Furthermore, working with roles might meet your requirement. When you start thinking about who will work on a project, you can first allocate a role because you do not have a specific person in might but rather a group of peole with similar capabilities. If you want to specify later on who will take over, you have the possibility to "staff role". Meisterplan will show a new screen after selecting this option. This screen is specifically designed to help you choose the right person for the job - also with the possibility to filter on multiple skills! See https://help.meisterplan.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004412153-Replacing-or-Removing-Roles-and-Resources#Staff-Role for more information and of course feel free to ask if anything does not make sense. What do you think? Regards Manuel

Resource Management View - Gantt View

Dear @Vicky.Thompson, Thanks for your contribution! Good to hear that the Gantt in Meisterplan helps you scheduling projects. I agree that triggering necessary discussions and decisions is one of the key purposes of Meisterplan. Concerning the resource section: as soon as you select a resource, the project list is filtered on those projects that the person is working on. This is the quickest way to find out “who does what”. By the way, this also works the other way round. Selecting a project automatically reduces the resource view to people scheduled on the selected project. Does that help you? Regards Manuel
  22. Within a typical resource pool there are multiple skills, competencies and capabilities which need to be collated into a single source and then used to identify resources for projects. Not requesting a named resource but for a resource with certain skills (especially when a large resource pool is available) is the long-term goal. Within Meisterplan filtering is only possible by 1 skill at a time (even though multiple skills per resource are stored in Meisterplan), however, when more than 1 skill is required the identification of resources becomes manual. Linkied to the 'Resource Management View - Gantt' the identification of impact on projects by moving resources, with identified skills, competencies and capabilities will be easier.
  23. In the 'Resources View' section find it difficult to establish / view what resources are working on easily without having to move the mouse over each allocation and unable to view project impact when moving timelines / milestones / dependencies. Multiple projects have interdependencies on other projects, in particular as a result of resource availability.

    Extended Rights Management

We have released it! You will find all details in the update information https://help.meisterplan.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015173911-Update-10-04-2018 See also the new overview how to set user rights by PPM role (https://help.meisterplan.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015551952/) which gives a good orientation about the existing options.
  25. Hi @Alexia, In general, the excel file includes a sheet which determines the rank of the projects. It is difficult to discuss detail without actually seeing the file. If you want, we can take a look at the detail personally - just send the file to me if you are interested Regards Manuel
